Chelmno Band (Kapela Chełmińska)
Andrzej Skupniewicz – a music teacher from Chelmno – has decided to revive the heritage of Chelmno Land (Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province). The task he set for himself is all the more difficult because this region is a white spot on the ethnomusicological map of Poland. Having no recordings, no informants, he used a unique source – the pre-war documentation of Rev. Cyril Karczynski. Andrzej Skupniewicz was joined by friends. This is how the Chelminsk Band* was born.
We are a band that plays traditional music. We revive the melodies that were played in Chelmno Land,” they write about themselves on Facebook. But they do not close themselves only to this repertoire.
