The Next (6th) Green Events Csángó Festival returns – be there or be square!
Get ready — the Csángó Festival is coming back to bring together traditional music, dance, art and the shared spirit of Hungarian Csángó, Polish and all Carpathian basin heritage. Building on the success of last year’s event in Gdansk and Torun, this new edition promises once again to be a joyous gathering in celebration of roots, community, and creativity in Toruń … but also in Kraków, this year.
What to Expect
- When & Where: The festival will take place over several days in Toruń (Barbarka forest centre and Vistula boulevards) October 11 and 12. In Kraków on October the 10th (19.00-21.00 – MUZEUM ETNOGRAFICZNE im. Seweryna Udzieli w Krakowie, Ratusz, Plac Wolnica 1 and 21.30-01.00 – STREFA NOWA | Kraków, ul. Mikołaja Kopernika 19).
- Music & Dance: Enjoy performances by master musicians, folk singers, dancers and bands from Hungary, Hungarian Csángó regions in Romania and Poland.
- Traditional instruments, dance‐houses (táncház), and a blend of cultural styles will make the experience rich and memorable.
- Workshops & Activities: Beyond concerts, there will be workshops where attendees can learn traditional dance steps, folk music techniques, and maybe even crafts associated with Csángó culture.
- Atmosphere & Values: The festival prides itself on intimacy and authenticity — no amplification for music and singing sound, closeness between artists and audience, respect for nature, high‐quality local food, and a convivial pace. It’s about meeting, living the tradition together rather than merely watching it.
- Last but not least, *Green Events is a long-standing (2008) program of the Aeris Futuro Foundation to support organizers of all events in implementing environmentally friendly innovations. The Green Event (Zielone Wydarzenia) Standard shows that it is possible to combine business, scientific, or non- governmental and governmental activities serving social development while making efficient use of environmental resources throughout the supply chain. The Csángó Festival in Poland is a Green Events’ festival.
Why It Matters
The Csángó people are a Hungarian‐speaking minority primarily in Eastern Romania, whose traditions—language, music, beliefs — are under pressures (social, political, demographic). Festivals like this help preserve and share those traditions, connecting younger generations with their heritage, and fostering intercultural understanding. This isn’t just nostalgia — it’s an active, living culture.
Last year’s festival brought together people from Poland and abroad. Attendees noted how the music energized them, the dance‐house format broke down barriers, and that families — including children — found something inspiring. It reminded everyone that culture has power: to heal, to unite, and to celebrate difference.
