Czango w Toruniu

Book 11-13.10.24 for the 5th Csángó Festival in Torun

Please join us on October 10, 2024 in Gdansk, Poland, and from October 11 to 13, 2024 in Toruń, Poland, to immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of the Csángó Festival in Poland.

Csángó Festival in Poland is a celebration of Polish-Hungarian friendship, with more nations and social groups joining in. The festival is the fruit of the burgeoning dance house movement – a tradition that originated in Hungary and is listed as an intangible UNESCO heritage site, where the young learn from the old in a natural way, making music, singing and playing together. Among the intergenerational events planned are:

  • workshops,
  • concerts,
  • dances,
  • games for families with children.

We will also showcase traditional handicrafts and cuisine, as well as visual arts – this year especially documentary photography of the Czango culture by Ádám Gyula.

The culture of the Czango (Hungarian: Csángó) people, a Hungarian-speaking ethnic group living in Romanian Moldova and parts of Transylvania, attaches importance to traditional values such as community, living in harmony with nature, and spirituality. This year we will also join the anniversaries of Saint Kinga (Latin: Kunegundis) and Saint Hedwig (Latin: Hedvigis). Both rulers and saints of the Catholic Church were born in Hungary and reigned in Poland – they are symbols of Hungarian-Polish friendship.

Let’s come together to experience beauty and draw on the patterns developed by past generations, and today forgotten, to create a valuable type of community, where native culture serves to bring people together, strengthen identity and civic activity.

Among the artists will be well-known and well-loved, but there will be no shortage of newcomers.

We will unveil details of the program gradually.
